| LASIK is an outpatient procedure performed to
improve vision. Today 99% of all refractive errors can be
treated. An excimer laser is used to gently
reshape the cornea (the clear outer coat of the eye) to improve
vision. At Physicians Eye Center, we
offer LASIK surgery in our Owensboro office using the top quality VISX S3
laser. Our LASIK surgeons are highly experienced ophthalmologists
with a special interest in LASIK. |

The First
Step |
The
decision to have refractive surgery is an important step that only
you can make. When your ready to consider LASIK, simply call or
e-mail Physicians Eye Center for a free screening. If you
are a candidate for LASIK a consultation will be scheduled. We
also work in conjunction with many local eye doctors to provide
surgical care for their patients. Our goal is to provide the best
treatment possible. |
|
|
Before
Surgery |
| A complete eye exam will be required to confirm the
health and prescription of your eyes. During your exam
special measurements and readings for the LASIK procedure will be
performed. |
|

|
|
These tests are needed to be certain you are a
good candidate for LASIK. At this point your questions will
be answered. Since the risks and side effects vary depending on
the state of your vision, these will be discussed at the time of
your consultation.

After
LASIK |
Your eye will be monitored after surgery to check
the healing process. It will be necessary to protect your
eyes while they are healing. Antibiotic drops and artificial
tear drops are begun immediately after surgery.
As your eye improves, you will be able to resume your normal
activities. Healing rates vary, but patients have less
irritation and recover more quickly with LASIK than other types of
eye surgery. |
|

|
| With time, your vision will stabilize and the final
result will be determined. It is important for patients
considering LASIK to have realistic expectations. Virtually
all patients will have a small amount of residual prescription;
however, the majority of patients will be able to see between
20/20 and 20/40 without glasses or contacts -- good enough to pass
the vision test for driving.
